You know how some people are dog people and some are cat people? Well, I fall in the "Dog Lover" category. (Sorry you cat people!!) According to a study recently conducted by the American Kennel Club it showes that owning a dog and owning a home just "go together"! "There are around 73 million households who own dogs, so that's a lot of people who are going to think about dogs when they buy a house or upgrade!" Not to exclude the cat people of the world, but I can relate to those folks trying to find a house with a fenced-in back yard, or room for their pooch to roam!
In March of this year we had to put to sleep "Patches" our Lab mix of 12 years. I empathized with those whom I knew had to put a beloved animal down, but I never "sympathized"--until now. Patches was special to our family. We have moved around the country--a lot, but she was always our constant companion.
After a time of crying my kids said, "Now lets go find a puppy!" I'm thinking--great--I get to potty train--again! We went to shelter after shelter, but just couldn't find the "right one". On a Friday afternoon, my husband suggested we head out toward Collinsville and visit all the shelters that direction. When my oldest daughter showed us "Sydney", a very energetic border collie mix puppy I knew I was hooked. I've always loved border collies and admired the way they herd sheep. BUT they are hyper! Sydney and I connected though and she has now been a part of our family for 4 months. She is energetic, but not to the point of neurotic! :) We go for walks and I've been watching many episodes of the "Dog Whisperer"!
So, for all you other dog lovers who are searching for a home--give me a call--I can relate!
